OSF celebrates National Healthcare Decisions Day - WREX-TV

ROCKFORD (WREX) -

April 16 is National Healthcare Decisions Day and a local health care system celebrated by helping people prepare their dying wishes.

The day is meant to encourage people to communicate how they want to be cared for at the end of their life to their family and health care providers. According to OSF HealthCare, it is best to document one's choices while healthy because illness and accidents can strike at any time.

"As a result of National Healthcare Decisions Day, more people in the community can be expected to have thoughtful conversations about their healthcare decisions and complete a Power of Attorney for Health Care form to make their wishes known," Dr. Robert Sawicki, Senior Vice President of Supportive Care for OSF HealthCare, said. "Fewer families and healthcare providers will have to struggle with making difficult healthcare decisions in the absence of guidance from the patient."

For more information on creating a will or setting up a Power of Attorney, contact OSF's Home Care Services Department at 309-655-2850.
