Red Cross seeks blood donations - San Jose Mercury News

SANTA CRUZ â€" The American Red Cross blood supply has reached emergency levels with 50,000 fewer donations than expected in June.

In an effort to maintain the community blood supply during the slow summer months, the charity has been working with faith groups throughout the area to coordinate a massive, month-long community blood drive in July.

The second annual Interfaith Community Blood Drive, which comprises more than 80 individual blood drives, will be held at church buildings and Red Cross facilities. Residents will be able to donate blood in the following locations:

  • Santa Cruz Interfaith Community, 220 Elk St., Santa Cruz, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 5 and 18
  • Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 9545 Lovecreek Road, Boulder Creek, from noon to 5 p.m. July 12
  • Felton Presbyterian Church, 6090 Highway 9, from 1-6 p.m. July 20
  • Pajaro Valley Health Trust Hall, 85 Nielson St., Watsonville, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 23

All blood types are needed, but especially O positive, O negative, B negative and A negative in order to meet patient demand this summer.
