Health Matters 8/8 - WCTV

Picking up that barbell may do more for you than sculpt your muscles.

Men who do weight training regularly, may be able to reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Researchers followed 32,000 men over an eighteen year period.

Every 2 years the men answered questions about how much weight training and aerobic exercise they did.

Results show men who lifted weights about thirty minutes a day five days a week reduced their risk of getting type 2 diabetes by about a third.

And the more they exercised, the more they decreased their risk, while further research is needed to confirm these results, study authors say this study is the first to examine the role of weight training in the prevention of type 2 diabetes.
