The Affordable Care Act needs fixing, not repealing.
Consider these facts:
Need: The U.S. spends twice as much on health care than any other country, yet we rank lower than 37th in the world. Costs escalate every year, while our raking slips lower. Turkey, Mexico and the U.S. are the only developed nations without universal coverage. Our system needs fixing now, not sometime in the future.
Alternative: There is no alternative plan. It has taken our government 100 years (starting with Teddy Roosevelt) to get this far.
Uniqueness: Health insurance is not based on supply and demand. The young, healthy and wealthy don't want it ---- not until they need it; then it is too late to buy it. Their medical expenses are passed on to existing policyholders. Universal health insurance does not work unless everyone participates.
Solution: The Obama program is based on a plan from a conservative think tank. Change the name to "Romneycare," because conservatives will not fix anything that makes the president look good. Then Mitt Romney can brag about the health care program he initiated when he was governor of Massachusetts, and the national program can be amended to make it a success.
