Signs outside the swine barn at the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island are warning visitors of a new strain of swine flu.

The Grand Island Independent reports (http://bit.ly/OPBrQo) that the Central District Health Department tacked up the signs.

Department nurse Katie Wichman says there's no reason for the average person to avoid the attraction. However, she says it's not a good idea to eat or drink in the swine barn, and people who visit it should wash their hands once they leave.

The new flu strain, known as H3N2v, has infected 289 people in the U.S. this year, but none in Nebraska.

The Minnesota Department of Health says three people developed swine flu symptoms after spending time last week at the Minnesota State Fair's swine barn.
